Jessica Ashley is a unique author/writer. She manages to mix romance, family and faith in a way that's different and oh so intense. I've felt soooo much reading her books. They're spicy, without the actual spice. They let you use your imagination in a way to let you feel their love all through you. Sawyer & Anastasia were meant to be together and you can just feel the love between them. There are many twists and turns it's hard to guess who the bad guy is. I've read all her books and can't wait for the next one to come out. She's my new favorite author and has also deepened my love for God and Jesus. I seldom write reviews but felt compelled to write this one.
Great story telling. I was hooked as soon as I started listening.
After finding Jessica Ashleys books last year I read almost every single one. I was thrilled when I found out about the companion novels btw!! :D
Seal of Honor is a great read and a great start to a new series! It has the perfect mix of romance, faith & suspense!
I love how the main characters are also "broken" people with stories that made them who they are and not perfect christians with no struggles.
The bible verses spoke to me and really made me think what they mean in my personal life. I also love that the characters know so many passages of the Bible by heart and can remember and pray them out loud in times of trouble - it encouraged me to really learn more and more of the Bible by heart!
So all in all: I am a fan girl and can't wait for the next book to be published so I can buy the audiobook and listen to it whenever possible :)
Greetings from Austria :)
Sawyer and Anastasia are amazing characters living life in a real way. This is not only a 5-star book, but also a book that I will re-read, no question.
When it first started the book there was a difficult situation with the two main characters- a misunderstanding, a failure to communicate, hurt feelings. So many books drag out this kind of thing for chapters and chapters so I was dreading that. BUT imagine my surprise and my sheer delight when these two people handled their problem in a timely manner with maturity and actually talked to each other in a real, honest way. Just like I would have done. No unnecessary angst or continuing hurt, but rather humble honesty and real resolution so they could move forward into their story in a believable way. Because they did this, the focus of the story was not on an unnecessary drama, but rather how they moved forward and faced the challenges ahead. This was so completely refreshing, and I have to say I loved that because it set me up for really engaging with the story.
Jessica wrote both main characters in such a way we get a real picture of how they think, how they feel, and why. Each have difficult things to deal with, but they deal with them by relying on faith, relationships, and realistic expectations. All of these things combined make Sawyer and Anastasia a joy to read about and my favorite characters in this series. (If you can’t tell, I love character driven stories.)
The characters were engaging but so was the story. No spoilers here, but I honestly did not know “who did it” until very close to the end. I didn’t see it coming and I was shocked! Jessica wrote a great mystery/ suspense!
A favorite thing about this story- and so many others in the Jessica Ashley universe- is Sawyer and Anastasia are not perfect, nor are they unrealistic in any way. I can relate to many of their feelings and actions. I can relate to wrestling with the Lord and struggling with faith.
Other things about the book: The “Note from the Author” section is always something I look forward to, and it did not disappoint. So much good stuff there. And lastly, the dedication brings tears to my eyes: “To those who have fought their way back to God. And to those who wage war on their knees. WE WILL NOT FEAR.” Amen!
I originally bought the Hunt Brothers series as ebooks and then went back and purchased the Coastal Hope ebooks. I loved them so much that I then went back and bought the paperback full bundle with all 12 books!
These books are so well written and leave you feeling hopeful and encouraged. I bought the alternate covers and love them! I purchased the physical copies because while this is a swoony romance, it has so much action that I just know my husband will love them too!
I HIGHLY recommend every one of these books. They literally keep getting better and better.
Wow. Just wow. Another thrilling no spice Christian romantic suspense from Ashley. I totally devoured her previous series and I wish this one was completed so that I could do it again.
This book has so much that I loved: a search and rescue military feel, a former SEAL and his team, a runaway bride, a second chance, redemption, faith, family, and so much more. Zane and his team have been trapped into doing off the books missions for years. And it’s wearing on them. Tessa has been missing for 18 years - ever since she ran away before their wedding. But suddenly she’s back, with all of the demons from her past (including horrific child abuse from her father) beating on her door.
This book was filled with action, protection, and so many amazing moments of faith, family, and redemption. I cannot wait to read more from this series and I adored seeing bits of the Hunts. The romance is just kisses, intimacy level 2.
TW: Kidnapping, Killing, Loss of Parent (past), Child Abuse
Jessica has become one of my must read Christian Fiction Suspense authors in the last couple of years. I love the way she weaves mystery, suspense/danger, great characters and a faith thread into a story I can’t put down. My favorite element of this story was the faith element with Tessa’s journey and Zane’s devotion was so sweet. I can not wait for the rest of this series!
I received a copy of this book from the author and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.
Jessica Ashley writes books with characters that feel like real people. You do not have to suspend disbelief in order to read the story. The characters are not perfect. We meet new characters on their journey where they may experience good and bad times, moments of confidence and insecurity, moments of great faithfulness, as well as dark nights of the soul. I can relate to all of that.
This was Zane’s and Tessa’s story. They fell in love when they were very young, but were forced apart by a cruel situation that changed every plan they had for their future lives, both as a couple an as individuals. This story finds them reunited 18 years after Tessa left Zane at the altar.
The latest chapter in Zane and Tessa’s story unfolded against a backdrop of mystery and suspense, that took several turns with a surprise ending. The author is talented; she was able to tie several story lines together in a way that was fresh and surprising.
Zane is a good man who struggles with the realities of being a soldier, an impossible situation with his boss, and now his conflicted feelings when Tessa reappears unexpectedly in his life. He adoreshis mother and his sister. I really enjoyed those family interactions. His teammates are his brothers who sacrificially support each other.
Tessa struggles with feeling unloved. She has experienced dark times, both in regards to her faith and her life. I see her as a survivor but she sees herself as being unworthy and a burden to everyone. She’s been alone, struggling for most of her life. Putting myself in her story, I understand why she feels the way she does, but it was difficult to read at times.
Honest conversations occur that help clear the air. They don’t necessarily immediately fix the problem, but they allow the characters to at least understand and move forward. The book shows the value of community, faith, relationships, and the bonds that tie us together.
Overall themes of the book are transformation, redemption, and faith. Tessa was transformed from someone who was insecure and hurt and lost to a woman of strength and faith.
Both Zane’s and Tessa’s relationship to each other, and Tessa’s relationship to God was restored and redeemed as they forged new beginnings.
Zane’s faithfulness, despite real hurt and struggle allowed him to embrace a new life with those he loved.
Author, Jessica Ashley has created a community of characters in her books and it was a joy to see characters from previous books making an appearance in this story in a way that was not forced but felt congruent and seamless to the story. It was refreshing to see how the relationships and the bonds of the characters have grown and how they relate to each other.
I am looking forward to the next installment in the Iron Tide Brotherhood series!
Please note, there are scenes of remembered domestic violence in this book, as Tessa was raised by an abusive, alcoholic father. I think the subject was handled carefully and respectfully, but I am noting that as information for those who may have experienced something similar before they pick up the book.
